Mario Fifth Dimension
By
"Timbo Jones "
This is just a theory, mind you, but you know of Mario games? Well,
whenever Mario falls into the holes in the levels, you think that he dies
off and you just get an extra Mario, right. Well I think that the designers
of the games built the code for the holes fine, but I think that they
didn’t actually design a bottom to the holes.
You see. There could be this fifth dimension. Where there are hundreds
of thousands, if not millions of marios still falling. It’s like
writing computer code and then not writing an end statement. Being that
Mario can move about laterally in mid air, I think the millions of marios
would naturally form groups. There could be group dynamics not unlike
in humans and other complexities that I will try to explain.
The upper echelon of the “civilization” would be the “Royal”
Fire Marios. Second in line would be the large Marios, and then there
would be the little marios. The Fire Marios while being the most dominant
of the “species” would also most likely be the least populous.
It just seems natural that there would be less, due to the scarcity of
the fire flower. But that withstanding, the Fire Marios would lay down
the law as far as dominance goes. Meanwhile the large marios while being
the plain variety would still remain near the top of the “Food Chain”.
The Little marios, meanwhile, to liken them to krill, would lay at the
bottom of the food chain.
Now I’m not implying, by using the phrase “Food Chain”
that the marios would revert from normal behavior, and resort to some
kind of Cannibalistic tendencies. As of yet, I’m not entirely sure,
whether video game characters feel hunger, or need food for that matter
(we could ask pac man about that). But I use the term to explain the social
order, which would have been a good phrase to use. As you see, while these
“beings” continue to fall seemingly forever,(I’ll get
to that latter) there must be some sort of social groupings. The normal
theory would go that, the Fire groups with Fire, the Plain groups with
Plain, and the little with the little. As in real life the social groupings
would probably begin to mix later on down the hole if they hadn’t
sooner. Different character types could actually start “befriending”
one another after the initial shock of having seen more than one of themselves,
more like millions of them. (That would tend to be a more psychological,
and beyond my expierience) Would groups of little marios gang up on the
Bigger ones? Maybe even take over the social order, try to unite( as the
little marios would most certainly outnumber the bigger ones) and stage
a coup of some sort? Or would the marios live in a black hole utopia,
where everyone is united by their uncertain future? I don’t know.
But as of yet I have not mentioned the other miscellanies that have fallen
in the hole. Such as: fire balls, turtle shells, mushrooms and others.
Would these extra items change the interactions of the Mario community?
I think it is possible. Take these examples. Lets say for instance that
during freefall a large Mario gets hit by a fireball, (thus making him
small). We can assume that if there is a Fire Mario around, that the now
small Mario would confront him. Would there be a scuffle? The Fire Mario
might say that it wasn’t him. But on further thought, Fire Mario
would ponder, “well actually before I fell into the hole, I shot
a few down there.) So in reality, The fire Mario could have hit the Big
Mario, just not in the present plane of existence. Now, would the small
Mario, sympathize with that explanation? Again, I don’t know. Or
the Fire Mario could have been an ass, and fired on the big Mario. In
this case the issue would be more tricky. War?
In another case of falling debris, would be a falling mushroom. As a small
Mario could, win the lottery per say and all of sudden become a big Mario.
While this would change the small Mario physically, would this change
him psychologically? Would he be too good for his “small friends”.
Or even, would his small friends accept him now that he is different?
I assume there would be some resentment among the others. I mean, they
were so close to being big.
As you deduct from these two examples, fire balls being more numerous
than falling mushrooms, leads to more of chance of getting a fire ball
than a mushroom, leading to an increase of the little Mario population,
and all sorts of combinations of psychological and physical problems.
I mean, a Fire Mario could be ironically, hit by a fire ball thus downgrading
him to a large Mario, and if he doesn’t watch out, be hit again,
resulting in another fall on the social ladder.
That example leads to another point. Fire Flowers don’t fall into
holes. Therefore there is no way for a big Mario to become a Fire Mario.
You can only enter the hole while a fire Mario. Now a little Mario can
become big, but after that, you better watch out. Essentially being a
Fire Mario is like royalty. You have to be born into it. Which would add
to the awkward friction there already is with the lesser marios. What
would it be like if you knew that there was no way you could make something
more of yourself. That is what a big Mario might feel. The little marios
on the other hand, always have that chance, of hitting the “lottery”
and becoming big. Although, after a Mario becomes big, he would have to
deal with the fact that it’s pretty much down hill from there. But
the lottery joy would last a while I assume.
As for the falling turtle shells, if they were just shells, most likely
would become either a building material, or possibly, currency. Now if
the laws on the ground transfer to black hole world, then, a few moments
after falling into the hole, the turtle would re-emerge from it’s
shell and to his surprise, find himself in a tricky situation. The turtle
would either join society peacefully or face the wrath of a lot of pissed
off marios. This leads to a more complex social situation, which I will
not go into.
“Have you seen the bottom?”. I believe that the some in the
Mario community could form a sort of religion. This religion would be
based on the idea that, if you are a good Mario in the hole, then you
will go on to see the bottom of the hole and live in a Mario paradise
with the princess awaiting you. The bottom then becomes, the Heaven of
the Mario black hole world. Of course some marios would choose not to
believe that there is a bottom to the abyss they are in. Naturally some
marios with try to convert the non-believers, leading to more social friction.
Although I have not thoroughly explained everything in the Mario black
hole world, I believe the theory remains valid. The Fact that the designers
of Mario could have overlooked and incidentally created another dimension,
is very intriguing. And Also subject to further investigation are topics
such as: multiple holes, or if they are all linked, theme music(do do,
do do, do do), Luigi, evil enemies(Bowser), etc., There is still work
to be done, but if the theory is proven true it could have a significant
impact, on something.
